How is the Winter in Spain?

Have you ever wondered what the winter season is like in Spain?

We just had the warmest month of December recorded in Spain since 1961, being out in the sun and having lunch on some of the loveliest terraces with amazing views of the Mediterranean Sea.

One of the causes of this scarce snow data and that lovely warm feeling is due to the unusually high temperatures that have been registered during the past month of December. In fact, nationwide, it has been the warmest December in 61 years, that is, since 1961.

In December 2022, the temperature was 2.9 degrees above the average for that month. By areas, December was extremely warm in most of the south and east of the Peninsula, while it was very warm in the rest of mainland Spain. With extremely warm in the south and east of the peninsula, we mean lovely temperatures and enough to almost go for lovely walks in shorts, go to lovely terraces and restaurants and go out for a nice bite to eat in the sun.

Consequently, the AEMET, the state meteorological agency, the monthly report shows that 27 main stations reached a temperature record for the month of December.

Specifically, at nine stations, the average daily maximum was the highest in the December series, and at six of them, the average daily minimum was also the highest in the December series. In addition, four seasons reached the highest maximum temperature for the month of December and another 14 recorded the highest minimum temperature in the last month of the year.

Meaning that in our area of the Costa Blanca and more specifically in Benijófar where our new office is located, we had average temperatures ranging from the minimum temperature of 7.5 degrees Celsius to the maximum temperature of 16.6 degrees Celsius.

So, as you can see, even December is a great time to visit our area, meaning that if you are sick of the cold weather back home, you can always come and visit our area to spend the holiday season here.
