Christmas here on the Costa Blanca

Come and spend an unforgettable Christmas and get to know the traditions of Spain.

In Spain, Christmas is celebrated on DECEMBER 24, which is called NOCHEBUENA, and on December 25, which is CHRISTMAS day.

At any table, on Christmas Eve there is no lack of suckling pig, fish, prawns, good wine and typical desserts of our province, mantecados, marzipan, and of course the sweet king of our province of Alicante, the turrón from Jijona.

Jijona is a city in the community of Valencia, located about 25 kilometers from Alicante. It is the world capital of Nougat and the cradle of the famous soft nougat from Xixona made with sugar, honey and almonds.

We invite you to visit it, not only is it beautiful, but the Turrón Museum awaits you, which offers guided tours around the history and the confectionery industry.

Come and do not miss Christmas, with its towns full of lights, parties and joy, with activities for the smallest of the house, theatre, Christmas workshops, markets full of magic and their nativity scenes. The visit of Santa Claus on Christmas Day and our Three Wise Men in January, another of the traditions of Spain, are loaded with many illusions and magic for young and old.

In Alcoy, another town that must be visited, the Christmas tradition is deeply rooted, since the city organizes the oldest Three Wise Men parade in Spain (and in the world) and its origin dates back to 1866. Every January 5 at 6:00 p.m. 00, the streets of the city are filled with festival-goers who roam the town, declared a festival of national tourist interest.

Another custom is to eat 12 grapes on New Year’s Eve to say goodbye to the year.
Do you know where the tradition of eating 12 grapes on New Year’s Eve comes from? Legend has it that in 1909 there was a production surplus in Alicante and that was the way to get it done. The Alicante town of Agost is one of those responsible for keeping this tradition alive, since, every year, it sees the birth of the “Vinalopó Embolsada Table Grape”, one of the most famous grapes, with which to pair on the last night of the year .
