Cycling on the Costa Blanca
2 wheel heaven for biking enthusiasts
To fans of cycling and cycling tourism, it is no secret that Calpe is THE go-to city in the Costa Blanca to perform the sport that attracts, every year, thousands of tourists from around the world.
As most people know, the Costa Blanca is home to a marvellous micro climate, which makes that this region one of the healthiest in Europe. With more than 320 days of sun you barely have to pack a rain jacket with you when you go on your 150km cycling trip but you are warned to bring enough water with you to avoid dehydration.
It is very important to also always use sunblock, this so that you can keep enjoying your holidays and not be as red as a tomato!
In recent years, the Spanish Government has also invested a lot of money into cycling infrastructure to provide a safe cycling environment with loads of new bike paths, green zones, etc
Hotels and restaurants even organize cycling trips in the region so that everything is ready and set for you once you step out of the Alicante airport.
Let’s not forget that for mountain bikers there is a lot to do here in this region as well, as the Costa Blanca is also home to some mountainous areas and rivers where you can challenge yourself and your friends at every level possible.
Lots of professional cycling teams come to the Costa Blanca all the time, so do not be surprised if you find yourself suddenly surrounded by Wout Van Aert, Peter Sagan, Mathieu Van Der Poel, and many more while they are preparing themselves for their next race.
Every year, the Vuelta de España comes to our region, and this year Torrevieja and Santa Pola were home cities of the start and finish of some stages in the 3 week long race around Spain.
When you have finished your tour of 20km, 80km or 150km and/or more, do not forget to enjoy the delicious local beers and tapas at the local Spanish bars with your friends or family to plan the next cycling trip!
