The Giant Nativity Scene that is featured in the Guinness Book of Records’ final piece, the three Wise Men figurines, will be built through a competition that has been announced by Alicante City Council as a way to further demonstrate its dedication to a “big” Christmas.
The Councilor for Festivities, Manuel Jiménez, explained this Saturday that “it is a new claim so that Christmas continues to have the national and international appeal effect that is intended.”
Jiménez has also stressed that “it represents a new support for bonfire artists, one of the professions most affected by the pandemic , and a new incentive for the reactivation of local trade, which will benefit from the arrival of potential national clients. and foreigners. In short, as we announced at Fitur with the motto Alicante, a big Christmas, we intend the city to be a workshop for artistic creation coinciding with the Christmas celebrations”.
The Giant Nativity Scene must incorporate the dimensions of the artistic figures of the Magi from the East in accordance with the contest’s requirements. In other words, they shall be measured in accordance with the heights of Saint Joseph (17 meters), Mary (10 meters), and the Child Jesus (3.25 meters). The six angels, which will be placed across various areas of Alicante, must be between 8 and 10 meters in height, with proportionate and balanced width and depth measures.
The contest is divided into four lots. One of them has to do with the building of the East Magi. The last three, in sets of two by two, are for the angels. The budget of each of the Kings is 35,000 euros. In the case of the angels, 25,000 euros each. These, individually, will be distributed by different emblematic points of the city, according to municipal sources.
The bidders will incorporate a visual representation of the three Magi and the Bethlehem Portal into their submissions. Additionally, they will include the sizes of each figure as well as the overall space that they will take up when built. To ensure flawless physical and visual integration, they will include measures equivalent to the ones already in place. The contractors will handle the shipping and assembly work, both of which must be finished before December 1, 2022.
