DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR BRITISH CITIZENS TO APPLY FOR TIE
Application for the new TIE CARD AS OF 22/07/2020. There are 4 different categories and each one will require different documents. Please see which category you fall into and then you will find what documents you will need.
PLEASE BE AWARE YOU WILL NEED THE ORIGINAL AND A COPY OF EVERY DOCUMENT
IF YOU ARE RETIRED:
- Bank Certificate where it shows that you receive your pension into your Spanish bank account for the last three months. If you do not receive it in your Spanish bank account, you must have a minimum amount (please contact us for up to date amounts) in your Spanish bank account for 3 months. It is also necessary to obtain a certificate from your bank to prove this.
- If any one of the couple does not get a pension, he/she will need to ask for another S1 that shows that they are partners and he/she is covered.
- Passport (copy of all the pages)
- NIE number
- Updated Padrón (A padron is only valid for 3 months)
- Passport photo
IF YOU ARE WORKING IN SPAIN FOR A COMPANY:
You can then only apply if you have a permanent contract and you have been working in Spain for at least the last 3 months.
- Vida Laboral / Spanish work like report (This application must be done at the Social Security Office)
- Work contract
- Last 3 payslips
- Certificate from the Spanish Bank (stamped) where it appears that you get your salary paid into this account (At least the last 3 monthly payments must appear on the certificate)
- Passport (copy of all the pages)
- NIE number
- Updated Padrón (A padron is only valid for 3 months)
- Passport photo
IF YOU ARE WORKING IN SPAIN AS AUTONOMO (self employed):
- Inscription as Autonomo (Inscripcion en el Censo de Actividades Económicas)
- Vida Laboral / Spanish work like report (The application must be done at the Social Security Office)
- Last Autonomo tax paid (Form 303-VAT; Form 130-IRPF)
- Certificate from the Spanish Bank (stamped) where it appears that your monthly income from autonomo are at a certain minimum (please contact us for up to date amounts). The last 3 monthly incomes must appear on the certificate
- Passport (copy of all the pages)
- NIE number
- Updated Padrón (A padron is only valid for 3 months)
- Passport photo
IF YOU ARE NOT RETIRED YET AND DO NOT WORK IN SPAIN:
- Private Medical Insurance. The policy should have the higher cover as possible such as a “Premium” as a basic insurance will not be sufficient, and it should specify that it does not have restrictions. Proof of the annual payment is also necessary.
- Certificate from the Bank (stamped) where it appears that you have at least a minimum amount (please contact us for up to date amounts) in your Spanish bank account, during the last 3 months.
- Passport (copy of all the pages)

- Updated Padrón (A padron is only valid for 3 months)
- Passport photo
The procedure with SGM will be:
- You have to bring all the documents to the SGM office and we will submit them to the FOREIGN STATE AFFAIRS platform. You will have to sign an authorisation form in the SGM office.
- In a few weeks or as soon as the status of the enquiry appears as “favourable”, we will ask for the appointment for you (presential appointment) in Alicante where you will have to go with our colleague and do your finger print, show the passport and passport sized photo. You will need to pay an Administrative fee to issue your TIE card (22€/person). We will prepare the necessary forms to pay the fee and translate for you during the appointment.
- Approximately one month after the application your TIE card will be ready for collection. We will accompany you to Alicante to collect it as you also need to be there in person.
