The ‘REBAJAS’ Spain’s New Year Sales

Rebajas: Essential insights into Spain's winter sales Unlike many countries such as the US, the UK, and Australia where winter sales start immediately post-Christmas on Boxing Day, Spain does it a bit differently.

If you’ve been holding off to buy new items during the sales or wish to spend your Christmas cash, many await the winter sales for grabbing fantastic deals.

In Spain, the holiday season stretches to January 6th with Three Kings’ Day, hence winter sales typically kick off post this date when gift shopping wraps up. This season’s sales (rebajas in Spanish) present an ideal opportunity to purchase winter apparel, with substantial markdowns expected on sweaters, jackets, and coats.

Leading Spanish fashion labels like Zara, Mango, Stradivarius, and Bershka will initiate their sales on January 6th online at 8 pm and on January 7th in-store.

Likewise, El Corte Inglés and Sfera will officially start their sales on January 7th.

Yet, some retailers like H&M, Cortefiel, Bimba y Lola, and Asos have already begun offering discounts from December 26th to 28th.

Cortefiel offers up to 60 percent off on their website and some in-store discounts, while Springfield starts earlier on January 1st. Sales dates may vary by region. For instance, sales in Madrid might start on January 1st, but most commence on the 7th.

Sales often extend through February or March, based on your location.

In Andalusia, the Balearic Islands, Murcia, and Valencia, they conclude on March 7th, while in Asturias, the Canary Islands, Castilla y León, Catalonia, Extremadura, and Navarra, they end on March 6th.

Many await the winter sales for grabbing fantastic deals.

In Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, and the Basque Country, sales wrap up on March 31st, and in Cantabria and Galicia, they persist until April 6th and 7th, respectively. Bankinter in Spain has issued various tips for maximizing the sales season this year.

These include shopping online via websites or apps first to snag the best deals, assembling a wish list to curb spontaneous buys, price comparing to ensure good value, and scrutinizing return policies closely.

Also, remember that most stores offer second and third rebajas, dropping prices even more to clear out old inventory before the sale period concludes.

Thus, if you’re not eager to dive into a shopping spree, waiting a few weeks post-January 7th might secure even better bargains.
