🚗🔧 All vehicles under 25 years old need this part to pass the ITV this year
At ITV inspections, the technical condition and functionality of various vehicle components are carefully checked. These include tires, brakes, steering, suspensions, emission levels, exterior conditioning (bodywork), interior conditioning (seats and seatbelts), and the lighting system. Within this lighting system, there is a crucial part that certain vehicles must have in order to pass the inspection successfully.
This essential component is the reverse light, which is mandatory for vehicles in categories M and N registered after 26/07/1999, and for trailers in categories O2, O3, and O4 registered after 10/07/2011 (optional for trailers in category O1).
ITV stations have issued a reminder to owners of vehicles under 25 years old, highlighting the importance of the reverse light when undergoing the inspection.
Their message is clear: “The reverse light is mandatory for all cars, buses, vans, and trucks registered after 1999.” They also point out that the inspector will check the number of lights and ensure that all are working correctly.
A faulty lighting or signaling system can result in an unfavorable ITV, as it is considered a serious defect. In this case, the driver can still use their vehicle to go to the nearest garage for repairs. Once fixed, they can return to the ITV station to verify the issue has been resolved and obtain a favorable certification.
If a driver continues to use a vehicle with such a defect, they may face a €200 fine if stopped by local police or the Guardia Civil.
At SGM Abogados, we recommend staying informed and ensuring your vehicle meets all requirements before your next ITV to avoid unnecessary issues or penalties.
