New Income Requirements for Spain's Digital Nomad Visa in 2025: What You Need to Know

New developments in Spain’s economic policies will have significant implications for digital nomads in 2025. SGM Abogados is here to guide you through these changes, ensuring you understand the new financial criteria necessary for securing or renewing your Digital Nomad Visa (DNV).

Update on Minimum Wage and Its Impact on the DNV

Recently, Spain’s Ministry of Labour, in collaboration with major trade unions, agreed to a 4.4% increase in the statutory minimum wage. Starting in 2025, the minimum wage will rise by €50 monthly, totaling €1,184 over 14 payments annually, which equates to a gross annual income of €16,576.

Decoding the Financial Requirements for Digital Nomads

This wage adjustment directly affects the income requirements for the Digital Nomad Visa, aligning them with the new minimum wage standards. Traditionally, Spain calculates annual salaries over 14 payments, rather than the 12 payments commonly expected by foreigners. For clarity, this equates to a monthly income of €1,381.33 when spread over 12 months.

Digital nomads will now need to demonstrate a monthly income of at least 200% of the adjusted minimum wage, which is €2,762, to qualify for the DNV in 2025. This is a noticeable increase from the 2024 requirement and reflects the changing economic landscape in Spain.

Requirements for Families

For those planning to apply for the DNV alongside their partner, the combined income requirement will be an additional 75% of the minimum wage, bringing the total to €3,798 monthly. Each additional dependent, such as a child, will necessitate an extra 25% of the minimum wage per month. Therefore, a family of four will need to prove a monthly income of approximately €4,489 to meet the visa requirements.

Looking Forward

Spain’s Labour Minister, Yolanda Díaz, has indicated that this minimum wage increase will soon be officially approved by the Spanish Cabinet. This means the UGE (Unidad de Grandes Empresas y Colectivos Estratégicos), the unit responsible for processing the DNV applications, will update their financial criteria accordingly in the near future.
