Did you know you can Ski in Spain?
Skiing the mountains of Spain
When thinking of Spain, do you immediately think of sun and heat? That is very normal, but Spain has much more to offer than just warm, sandy beaches with crystal blue water in 30 degrees sun.
Spain has many mountainous areas, where in wintertime many winter sports fanatics come down to practice the fine art of skiing or snowboarding!
Believe it or not, but Spain is the second most mountainous country in Europe, after Switzerland.
Spain has many high class ski resorts, and the closest one to our area of the Costa Blanca, is the Sierra Nevada. As Europe’s most southern ski resort, the Sierra Nevada has more than 124 runs where you can carve your way down, with the sun glaring in your shades while enjoying the fresh mountainous air.
Of course, there are many terrain parks in which you can take your slopestyle or rail skills to the next level.
When in the Sierra Nevada, we also do recommend coming down from the mountain to the beautiful city of Granada. We understand it is hard to leave the heat of the bar in the mountain while drinking a nice hot chocolate (or something stronger), but trust us, Granada is well worth it. Granada will stun you with amazing architecture of the Moorish Palace named the Alhambra. Also the views from the Mirador de San Nicolas are spectacular, as you have a wide view of the Alhambra and downtown Granada.
A definite must do, is going to an Arab Bath Hall in Granada to relieve those thigh muscles after snowboarding all day!
And after that, do not forget to go for a nice dinner in the ancient centre and later that same night, attend an authentic flamenco show which will give you goosebumps.
From our region, Granada and the Sierra Nevada are only 3 hours driving, and you will experience a different type of Spain which will give it an experience to never forget.
