The number of international flights scheduled to Spain for December this year is already close to 2019 figures, before the spread of the Coronavirus and the COVID-related measures, the recent report of Spain’s Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism has revealed.
The data from Turespana shows that with over 7,066,100 seats expected, the recovery reached 97.4 per cent in December this year, compared to the figures of the same month in 2019, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports. Maria Reyes Maroto, has considered the figures a sample of the confidence that the country generates in the air sector.
“Despite inflation and the current economic situation, companies are anticipating levels of activity that are almost identical to those of pre-pandemic. The percentage of recovery with respect to 2019 values reaches the highest value of the entire current year for December, which indicates that the recovery of tourist activity continues to consolidate month after month,” the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism pointed out in this regard.
According to the statement, more than nine of the largest markets for Spain have presented scheduled capacities for this month, which are higher than those compared to the same period in 2019. The most significant increase in scheduled flights to Spain for this month has been noted by the following countries:
At the same time, it has been reported that the scheduled flights from the following markets exceeded pre-pandemic levels: France (3.2 per cent increase) Netherlands (7.5 per cent) Switzerland (1.6 per cent) Denmark (5.1 per cent) and Norway (7.4 per cent).
“In the case of Britain it is close to pre-pandemic levels, with a recovery percentage of 99.6 per cent,” the statement reads.
Despite the difficulties and the significant financial loss noted in many industries due to the travel restrictions imposed by the spread of the Coronavirus and its new variants, Spain has managed to open its doors to a large number of international travellers this year.
In October alone, the data provided by the country’s Ministry of Tourism revealed that there was marked a significant increase in the number of international visitors.
The statistics provided by the same Ministry revealed that about eight million international passengers reached Spain in October, which means a total of 95 per cent recovery in tourist arrivals registered compared to the figures for the same period in 2019.
